Rules for creating a project thread

You must follow these in order to keep up a project thread.

Tags
Your thread must be accompained with the correct tag:
  • Ongoing - Hack is currently being worked on
  • Released - Hack is released
  • Hiatus - Hack is on hold
  • Dead - Hack is cancled

  • Projects ongoing for 5 months or more with no progress updates will automatically be placed onto 'hiatus'.
  • Projects on hiatus for 3 months will be automatically considered 'dead'.
  • To revive a dead hack, contact a staff member with more pieces of work completed.
  • If your hack dies, you will also be banned from making another project thread for a certain amount of time (depending on how many dead projected you've made).

Requirments
  • You must show at LEAST 5 screen shots of your hack
    - Don't make them all the same level.
    - If you have a video, say a trailer, you only need 3 screenshots.
    - Logo's do NOT COUNT as an image.
  • Hack must be accompanied with a good description.
  • Levels must have effort put into them.
  • All original levels. If anything is taken from the depo your thread will be trashed for plagiarism.

Things to remember
  • Do you really have the dedication to make a hack?
    - Making a hack, even if it's a small one, is very time consuming and will require a lot of effort.
    - If you want a team then be prepared to make sure everyone is motivated and dedicated, along with making sure
everything is in tip top condition. It's up to you to do the most work to keep production flowing.
  • Do you really want to make your own hack?
    - There are probably some hacks out there that you can join, rather than making your own. Making your own hack is tedious, and a bad step for newcomers.
    - Many people who are motivated to make something will often turn to making their own hack. The right thing to do is to join a hack and dedicate yourself along with others to make something nice.
  • Are you a good leader?
    - Regardless if you have a team or going solo, being a good director/leader is crucial. If you know you quit easily, lose interest regularly, are busy most of the time, or even just lazy, join a hack. This way, whatever you make will contribute to that hack even if you leave. If you trash a custom made hack, chances are, it'll stay trashed.
  • Please don't set unrealistic goals.
    - Right out the gate: If you do not have any sort of coding knowledge, please don't put "custom sprites!" in your hack description. Unless you have a team member who can do this, you'll end up disappointing a lot of people including yourself.
    - Stick with something you know how to do. A small hack with levels you legitimately put effort in is better than a flashy hack with false promises.

Threads that do not comply with these rules will be trashed within 24 hours.

This is a place to talk about whatever you want.

Keep spamming to a minimum, however.

Minor bugs don't really deserve their own thread. With that said, post bugs you see around the board here and staff will take notice.

Horizon will be online until 11:00pm (EST) for testing purposes. If you see any type of bug/glitch/error report it to me right away.

Anyway, have fun.

You could try making the depot public so you don't have to login to view it.
Fixing that right now.

The board will be having a host switch later this week, so expect a link change.

I'll probably have a redirect link from here to the new one, but just figured I'll let everyone know.

Staff isn't going to transfer project threads, that's up to those team members. If you want to transfer it over feel free.

Converting Music is quite simple if your a PC user (sorry MAC users which include me) but here's how to convert music basically in the simplest way possible and how to loop it correctly as well. Make sure you already have a song folder set up for the xml!

STEP 1: Converting

1. Have the best song of your choice. (Recommended in .mp3)
- any song as long as it\'s .mp3

2. Download Looping Audio Converter by clicking download then by clicking the zip
https://www.lakora.us/brawl/loopingaudioconverter
- click the download button and donload the zip file

3. Simply run the app (.exe)
- easy enough

4. You should have a menu like this:

- Now click \"add\" and choose your .mp3 song
- then choose output for your destination folder you want the finished product to be executed to.
- Then click start and your good to go!

4.5 Here we have a simple documentation of what to name your song so it can execute in the game correctly. Depending on the name of the file will affect which theme it'll be replaceing in game.

STEP: 2 Patching

1. After you rename the file we must do one final step and that's to fix the looping of brsar so simply download the following file: https://dl.smwcentral.net/9578/BRSAR%20File%20Patcher.zip and make sure you have the file wii_mj2d_sound.brsar ready.
- the .brsar can be recieved by reggie dumping the file .brsar
- brsar pather is found in the link

2. Now open and load your converted .brstm song file then choose which music track its replacing. For example, if I were replacing the desert level music I would then choose BGM_sabku. Finally compile and save it.

- open, compile, then save

3. Not finally you put the modified .brsar in ths sounds folder but keep it out of the stream folder as that\'s where the music belongs. And put your .brstm in the stream folder. If one doesn't exist then add the stream folder yourself.
- place brsar in sounds
- place converted .brstm in stream

I HOPE THIS HELPS YOU MUSIC PEOPLE WITH CONVERTING, if you have questions for editing music and newer, ASK! It isn't much different! This same exact thread can be found here in case of emergency.

If you want to make the bgB background a single image, use this:
https://mega.nz/#!WdZmlAgQ!xhGSSQqwoU15VpFkAZvv9HnA7MdyCdz3aYxlPKNJVaY

Or, you could use an existing BG and texture edit it.

You can try replacing the models of other backgrounds, but I'm not exactly sure how.

This tutorial will focus on giving your background its own unique ID/slot.
You first need to name your background. For example, bgA_1111 for a Scenery
bg. Or, bgB_2354 for a backdrop bg. It doesn't matter too much. It just needs
to correspond with the 4 # pattern.

You also want to make sure the bgA or bgB makes sense. Meaning, it's bgA if it's a Scenery bg, and
it's bgB if it's a Backdrop bg. Name the file with your new ID, but don't forget the original one.

After you have all that sorted out,

Once you've finished that, save and close the arc file. That's it! You're done!

This replaces regular bowser with dry bowser. It's a simple model hack, just replace your current koopa.arc with the download below.

Some tutorials have already been transferred, so if you spot more just add them in.

Also, NSMBU sprite database is coming soon.

Here's where we can talk about sprites and whatnot, made by my amateur coding abilities

You can request stuff as well, though nothing too fancy.

Here's a green coin sprite I made:

It's subject to change, like a faster animation, brighter model, and having it appear from an event or something. I'm willing to do the NSMBU/LU green coins but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This is just a way for me to learn and expand my knowledge. If there are any other sprites I'm working on, I'll post them here.

You can use Actor Spawner instead of implementing it directly in the sprite

Well, that could work as well.

I wish I knew how to code, heheh.

Anyways, could you try and make Yoshi swimmable? I would if
knew where to begin at ASM coding.

Plus, it may help you with your training...

Can't edit yoshi code atm, can only replace stuff newer made. If I want that to change I would have to RE the original game, which I've never done before. Though, you never know, maybe I'll be able to do it sooner or later.
